This table was discovered by Rob Grillo in the local press, as were the 1897/98 and 1898/99 tables. It suffers from a number of imperfections, but is the best yet found. It would appear that a number of clubs failed to complete their fixtures. All games had to be completed by the end of April and some fixtures may have been considered meaningless once the championship had been decided.
The championship was decided by a play off as goal average had yet to be thought of. Bradford and Hunslet drew 2-2 on the last day of the month and the light was too bad to play extra time. The title was thus shared.
Ferrybridge withdrew from the league and their record was expunged.
