Buckstone Park's first and last competitive game
Buckstone Park entered the Leeds Workpeople's Hospital Cup in season 1894/95 and were defeated at Hunslet in their first foray. This was probably the club's first and last competitive fixture as an independent club before they were incorporated into Bradford FC at the end of the season. The following report appeared in the Wharfedale & Airedale Observer the following Friday.
ASSOCIATION
BUCKSTONE PARK v HUNSLET
These teams met in the first round of the Leeds Workpeople's Charity Cup at Hunslet on Saturday last, in dull weather, and before a very small gathering of spectators. Buckstone won the toss, and Shepherd took the advantage of a stiff breeze, blowing from goal to goal. From the kick off Hunslet rushed the ball up the field, and forced a corner; but the visitors cleared their lines, and came right away to their opponents' goal. They continued to press, and had very hard lines in not scoring; in fact, the ball hit the cross-bar three times in the first fifteen minutes. After this, Leadlow scored from a piece of smart work. The game continued all in favour of Buckstone until half-time, but they could not manage to increase their score. In the second half the home team made the game very rough, and managed with the help of the referee to score three goals. But Buckstone were not disgraced, as a spectator said that the home team won the match by being able to play a rough game better than their opponents.
